My Role of Producer

Hutchins, Kay and Perinpanayagam in Passion and Performance describe the main objectives of a theatre Producer as the following:

  • “The development and delivery of the company’s vision, aims and artistic policy
  • Developing strategies, plans and budgets
  • Initiation and creation of projects
  • Brokering and cultivating creative partnerships
  • Income generation” (Hutchins, Kay, Perinpanayagam, 2007, p. 15).

As the Producer of WAKEUP Theatre I hope to support each theatre company member individually throughout all elements of administrative production such as marketing, budgeting and directing, in order to maintain a successful and thriving theatre company. I intend to pass on my knowledge and experience within rehearsals in order to give advice and direction throughout the process of creating our first performance 130,000, to provide confidence in order to benefit team member’s characterisation. In preparation for 130,000, I have used my organisational skills to arrange a specific rehearsal schedule in order to further our process in a sizeable studio. Rehearsals are massively important in not only the development of a performance but also vital for the growth of the overall theatre company. For me, respect within a theatre company is massively important; to be able to communicate and listen to each other creates a healthy bond and an overall successful relationship within the company. As WAKEUP Theatre began to develop, myself and all other company members together wrote a contract in which we would sign and abide by in order to maintain respect throughout the company. The WAKEUP Theatre Company Contract is as follows.

  1. 48 hours notice must be given to why you can’t make rehearsals unless you have a viable reason.
  2. Punctuation- No turning up late to scheduled rehearsals and meetings. If you are late more than 4 times to rehearsals then a meeting will be arranged with the module leader Wes, and your role will be passed on to another member of the company.
  3. Manners- respect each other, politeness.
  4. Everyone has a chance to have their voice heard.
  5. Deadlines- stick to them.
  6. Preparation for rehearsals and meetings. Be responsible for your role etc.
  7. Breaks- times get hard have a break and some food and drink.
  8. Provide help for others- willing to work as a team if someone is struggling when it comes to everything to do with the company such as performance, blog, and production.
  9. Blog- everybody has to contribute to the blog in the same way, 2500 words each throughout.
  10. Each person will contribute 2 hours of their own time each week to work towards this module.
  11. Commitment and passion
  12. Be professional
  13. Ethics and morals.

Please sign your name in agreement that you will abide by all elements of the contract and will give 100% of your hard work and passion into WAKEUP Theatre Company.

As my role of Producer for WAKEUP Theatre, I hope that my leadership has successfully guided all members of the company, in all elements of administrative production in producing a thriving and memorable performance. I hope the process of creating 130,000 has not only been rewarding but most importantly fun.
